Our model today is 23-year-old Grace Wanene. She is the Miss Earth Kenya 2016. Wanene says she likes writing, reading and networking with other women. She is a student at St Paul University, where she is undertaking Business Administration.
Grace, an environment enthusiast, is the founder of Drawing Dreams Initiative, a community based organization founded in August 2015 and officially launched in January 2016 working in Laikipia. And for those of us who did not know Laikipia means treeless plain.
That could explain why Grace is determined to conserve its environment lest it becomes treeless.
Apart from being Miss Earth Kenya 2016, Grace has also previously bagged Miss World Kenya Laikipia County, Miss Tourism Laikipia 2013/14 and 1st Runners-UP Miss Earth Kenya.
In a previous interview, she said she chose environmental advocacy so as to avoid human-wildlife conflicts.
“Lack of conservation education is causing lots of Human-Wildlife Conflict, leading to competition for scarce resources, to loss and degradation of habitat, biodiversity and protected areas. My advocacy is conservation awareness education, a tool that I confidently believe in; in passing the conservation agenda to the current and future generations who become eco-conscious and conservation leaders and sensitizing, enlightening and empowering our communities on their conservation roles,” she told missearth.tv.
